Reuben Spartas founded an independent African Orthodox movement in Uganda in the early twentieth century, choosing connection to the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria when the Church there formally received his community in 1946. A faith chosen this deliberately fits close to the head, carried by people who sought it out themselves.
