Saint Xenia of Saint Petersburg Coffee Mug

Sale price£23.00

Saint Xenia of Saint Petersburg is one of the most beloved saints of the Russian Orthodox Church and one of the great fools-for-Christ in Orthodox history. Born in Saint Petersburg around 1730, she was married to a court singer named Andrei Petrov who died suddenly without receiving Holy Communion or last rites. Devastated by grief and fearing for his soul, Xenia gave away all her possessions, dressed in her late husband's military uniform and began calling herself by his name, Andrei, telling people that Xenia had died. She wandered the streets of Saint Petersburg for forty-five years, enduring cold, mockery and hardship, secretly helping the poor and praying ceaselessly. She was glorified as a saint in 1988 and her chapel in Saint Petersburg draws countless pilgrims. Her feast day is celebrated in February.

"God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise." (1 Corinthians 1:27)

O holy blessed Xenia of Saint Petersburg, fool-for-Christ and tireless intercessor, who for love of God and thy husband's soul didst abandon all earthly comfort, intercede before the Lord for all who call upon thee in their sorrows and needs. Amen.

This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for baptisms, name days, feast days, Easter, Christmas or any occasion where the extraordinary love and sacrifice of the saints is honoured.
