Saint Tsar Nicholas II Coffee Mug

The Holy Royal Passion-bearer Tsar Nicholas II of Russia is venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church and throughout the Orthodox world as a holy martyr and passion-bearer, glorified together with his wife the Empress Alexandra and their five children as the Holy Royal Family. Born in 1868, Nicholas II was the last Emperor of Russia, a deeply devout and gentle man of sincere personal faith who bore the crushing burdens of his reign with prayer and trust in God. He abdicated in 1917 following the Revolution and was held with his family under house arrest before being transferred to Yekaterinburg. On the night of 16th to July 1918 he was shot together with his entire family and four faithful servants in the basement of the Ipatiev House. They bore their suffering and death with extraordinary faith, forgiveness and peace. The Tsar is said to have crossed himself before the execution. They were glorified as passion-bearers by the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000. Their feast day is celebrated in July. Nicholas is venerated not as a perfect ruler but as a man who bore his cross with Christian faith and died forgiving his murderers.
