Saint Simon the Zealot Coffee Mug
The Holy Apostle Simon the Zealot is one of the twelve apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, known by the surname Zealot which in first-century Judea referred to a member of the Jewish nationalist movement that sought to overthrow Roman rule. His conversion to Christ represented a profound transformation, from one who sought the kingdom of God through political and military means to one who proclaimed it through the preaching of the Gospel and the laying down of his own life. After Pentecost he preached the Gospel in Egypt, Mauritania, Libya, Britain and Persia according to various Orthodox traditions, travelling to the furthest reaches of the known world as a witness to the Risen Christ. He was martyred alongside the Apostle Jude Thaddeus in Persia around 65 AD. His feast day is celebrated in May with the other apostles and in July together with Saint Jude Thaddeus.
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit." (John 15:16)
O holy Apostle Simon the Zealot, who didst exchange earthly zeal for the zeal of God and travel to the ends of the earth proclaiming the Risen Christ, intercede before the Lord for all who seek to serve God with wholehearted devotion and true zeal for His glory. Amen.
This mug makes a meaningful gift for baptisms, name days, feast days, Easter, Christmas or any occasion where the apostolic zeal and witness of the Orthodox faith is celebrated.
