Saint Procopius the Great Martyr Framed Canvas Icon

Saint Procopius, originally named Neanias, served as an official in the Roman administration in Palestine under Emperor Diocletian, having been entrusted with suppressing the growing Christian community when he experienced a sudden vision of a luminous cross accompanied by a voice that called him to a faith he had until that moment been sent to destroy. He changed his name to Procopius and began openly proclaiming the very faith he had once been ordered to persecute, a reversal so striking that even his own mother, who had initially tried to talk him out of his new conviction, was herself eventually moved to embrace Christianity and ultimately share in his martyrdom. Subjected to severe and prolonged torture for his refusal to recant, he is remembered for performing miracles even during his imprisonment, strengthening the faith of those who witnessed his suffering before his eventual execution by beheading. He is counted among the earliest and most venerated of the Great Martyrs, his transformation from persecutor to proclaimer standing as a powerful witness that no opposition to Christ, however determined, lies beyond the reach of His calling.
