Saint Pelagia the Penitent Black Coffee Mug

Sale price£25.00

Saint Pelagia was one of the most celebrated penitents of the early Church, a woman of Antioch renowned for her beauty and her dissolute life who was transformed by the grace of God into a great ascetic and saint. She heard a sermon by Bishop Nonnus of Heliopolis, was pierced to the heart with compunction, made a full confession of her sins and was baptised. She then distributed all her wealth to the poor and withdrew to a cell on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem where she lived in prayer and fasting for many years.

"There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." (Luke 15:7)

O holy Pelagia, vessel of repentance and bride of Christ, who turned from the vanity of the world to the love of God and was glorified by thy tears and thy asceticism, intercede before the Lord for all sinners who seek repentance and for all who bear thy holy name. Amen.

This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for name days, baptisms and as a gift for those named Pelagia or Polina.
