Saint Patrick of Ireland Coffee Mug

Saint Patrick of Ireland is venerated in the Orthodox Church as the Holy Hierarch and Equal-to-the-Apostles Patrick, Enlightener of Ireland, one of the greatest missionary saints of the ancient undivided Church and the apostle who brought the Christian faith to the people of Ireland in the 5th century. Born around 385 AD in Roman Britain, possibly in Wales or Scotland, he was captured by Irish raiders at the age of sixteen and spent six years as a slave in Ireland, during which time his faith deepened profoundly through prayer and suffering in solitude tending sheep. He escaped, received theological training in Gaul and was later called by God in a dream to return to Ireland as a missionary. He spent the remainder of his life evangelising Ireland with extraordinary success, baptising thousands, ordaining priests and bishops and establishing monasteries that made Ireland a centre of Christian civilisation and learning for centuries. His famous Breastplate prayer, Christ before me, Christ behind me, is one of the most beloved prayers of Celtic Christianity. He reposed around 461 AD and his feast day is celebrated in March.
