Saint Paraskeva Petka Coffee Mug
Saint Paraskeva of the Balkans, known as Petka in Serbian and Romanian, is one of the most beloved and widely venerated saints of the Orthodox Church in the Balkans, deeply cherished by the Serbian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Greek peoples. Born in the 11th century in the village of Epivates near Constantinople to a devout Christian family, she devoted herself to fasting, prayer and the service of the poor from a young age. After spending time in Constantinople and the Holy Land she became a hermit in the desert near the Jordan River, living in extreme asceticism before returning to her homeland where she reposed in peace around 1050 AD. Her relics have been glorified by God through countless miracles and have rested in several locations throughout history including Tarnovo, Vidin and finally Iasi in Romania, where they have rested since 1641 in the Metropolitan Cathedral and draw enormous numbers of pilgrims. Her feast day is celebrated in October and she is considered the patron saint of Romania and Serbia.
"She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy." (Proverbs 31:20)
O holy venerable Paraskeva, great ascetic and intercessor of the Balkan peoples, who didst forsake all earthly comfort to seek God alone in prayer and fasting, intercede before the Lord for all who venerate thy holy relics and seek thy maternal protection. Amen.
This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for baptisms, name days, feast days, Easter, Christmas or any occasion where the Orthodox faith and the saints of the Balkans are honoured and celebrated.
