Saint Paisios the Athonite Coffee Mug

Saint Paisios the Athonite is one of the most beloved and widely venerated saints of the modern Orthodox Church, glorified in 2015 by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and already considered by millions of Orthodox Christians around the world to be one of the greatest spiritual fathers of the 20th century. Born Arsenios Eznepidis in 1924 in Farasa, Cappadocia, in what is now Turkey, he was baptised by the holy elder Arsenios of Cappadocia, whose name he later took in monasticism. He served in the Greek army during the Civil War before becoming a monk, eventually settling on the Holy Mountain of Athos where he lived a life of extraordinary prayer, fasting, humility and love for all people. Thousands of pilgrims came to him from around the world seeking counsel, healing and spiritual direction. He was known for his great discernment, his sharp wit, his deep compassion and his genuine love for every person who came to him. He reposed in July 1994 and his feast day is celebrated on that date.
