Saint Oswald of Northumbria Black Coffee Mug
Saint Oswald was the King of Northumbria who brought the Christian faith to his people through the mission of Saint Aidan from the island of Iona. Before the decisive battle of Heavenfield he erected a wooden cross and led his army in prayer, winning a great victory against a vastly superior force. He ruled with justice and holiness for eight years before being killed in battle in 642 AD. According to Bede, his final words were a prayer for the souls of his soldiers: may God have mercy on their souls.
"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
O holy martyr Oswald, king and confessor of the faith, who gave thy life defending thy people and praying for those who fell with thee, intercede before the Lord for all rulers who seek to serve with justice and for all who venerate thy holy memory. Amen.
This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for name days, baptisms and as a gift honouring the Orthodox saints of ancient Britain.
