Saint Moses the Ethiopian Coffee Mug

Saint Moses the Ethiopian, also known as Moses the Black, is one of the most celebrated and beloved of all the Desert Fathers, venerated throughout the Orthodox world as a supreme example of the transforming power of God's grace and as a powerful patron of all who struggle against violent passions and sinful habits. Born in Ethiopia around 330 AD, he was a slave who was dismissed by his master for theft and violent behaviour and became the leader of a notorious band of robbers, feared throughout Egypt for his great physical strength, his violent temper and his lawless way of life. At some point he was converted and found his way to the desert monks of Scetis where he was received with great love and became one of the most celebrated disciples of the desert, transformed by the grace of God from a violent criminal into a great saint and spiritual father. He was ordained a priest and reposed in 405 AD as a martyr, refusing to flee when a band of raiders attacked the monastery, saying that those who live by the sword must die by the sword. His feast day is celebrated in September.
