Saint Jude Thaddeus the Apostle Coffee Mug
The Holy Apostle Jude Thaddeus, also called Lebbaeus, is one of the twelve apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ and the author of the Epistle of Jude in the New Testament. He is the brother of James the son of Alphaeus and is sometimes called the brother of the Lord in Orthodox tradition. At the Last Supper it was Jude who asked Christ the searching question Lord, how is it that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world, to which Christ replied that those who love Him will keep His word and the Father will love them. After Pentecost he preached the Gospel in Judea, Samaria, Idumea, Syria, Mesopotamia and Persia. He is venerated throughout the Catholic and Orthodox world as the patron saint of desperate and hopeless causes, the apostle to whom people turn when all other help has failed. He was martyred in Persia alongside the Apostle Simon the Zealot around 65 AD. His feast day is celebrated in July.
"Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life." (Jude 1:21)
O holy Apostle Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant of Christ and intercessor in desperate causes, who didst preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth and seal thy witness with martyrdom, intercede before the Lord for all who call upon thee in their most desperate need. Amen.
