Saint Hilda of Whitby Black Coffee Mug
Saint Hilda of Whitby was one of the most remarkable women of the early English Church, an abbess of extraordinary wisdom and holiness who governed the great double monastery at Whitby in Northumbria with grace and spiritual authority. Born into the Northumbrian royal family in 614 AD, she founded the monastery at Whitby which became a great centre of learning and produced five future bishops from among its monks. The Venerable Bede recorded that all who knew her called her mother, so great was her grace and holiness.
"She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." (Proverbs 31:26)
O holy mother Hilda, wise abbess and teacher of kings, whose holiness drew all to thee as children to a mother, intercede before the Lord for all women of the Church and for all who seek wisdom and holy governance. Amen.
This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for name days, baptisms and as a gift honouring the holy women of the ancient British Orthodox Church.
