Named after Saint Elizabeth the New Martyr, the Grand Duchess of Russia who was martyred in 1918 and glorified as a saint, this church serves the local Orthodox community with faithfulness and dedication. Saint Elizabeth of Russia was known for her extraordinary charity, founding the Convent of Saints Martha and Mary in Moscow and devoting her life to the poor and suffering after the assassination of her husband Grand Duke Sergei. She was martyred by the Bolsheviks and her relics rest in Jerusalem at the Church of Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives.
