Saint David is the patron saint of Wales and one of the most beloved figures of the Celtic Orthodox tradition. Born in the sixth century, he founded numerous monasteries and churches across Wales and became the most influential Christian leader in Wales of his time. He was known above all for his life of extraordinary simplicity and asceticism. His final words to his monks, spoken shortly before his death on 1st March 589 AD, have been treasured by the Welsh people for fifteen centuries: be joyful, keep the faith, and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do.
