Saint Cuthbert is one of the most beloved saints of the ancient British Orthodox Church, the shepherd bishop of Northumbria whose holiness, gentleness and gift of healing drew people to him from across the land. Born around 634 AD, he entered the monastery of Melrose and later became prior of Lindisfarne. He was known especially for his love of nature and his compassion for all living creatures — the eider ducks of Lindisfarne were under his protection and are still called Cuddy's ducks in his memory to this day.
