Saint Charalambos Coffee Mug

Saint Charalambos, the Holy Hieromartyr Charalambos of Magnesia, is one of the most beloved and widely venerated saints of the Greek Orthodox Church, celebrated throughout the Orthodox world for his extraordinary longevity, his miraculous endurance of torture and his powerful intercession against plague and disease. Born around 98 AD in Magnesia in Asia Minor, he served as a priest during the reign of the Emperor Septimius Severus and endured his martyrdom at the extraordinary age of 113 years. He was subjected to the most terrible tortures, his flesh torn with iron hooks, boiling pitch poured over him and his beard plucked out, all of which he endured with supernatural patience and peace that converted many of his tormentors including several soldiers and a nobleman's daughter. Our Lord Jesus Christ appeared to him during his sufferings. He was beheaded around 202 AD and before his repose he asked God to grant that wherever his relics rested there would be no plague, famine or death from disease. He is therefore venerated as a powerful protector against epidemics and disease. His feast day is celebrated in February.

O holy hieromartyr Charalambos, wondrous elder who didst endure terrible tortures with divine peace and who dost protect from plague all who call upon thee, intercede before the Lord for the healing of the sick and for protection from all disease for all who venerate thy holy memory. Amen.
