Saint Catherine of Alexandria Coffee Mug

Saint Catherine of Alexandria is one of the most celebrated and venerated great martyrs of the Orthodox Christian Church, whose feast is kept in December. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in the late 3rd century to a noble family, Catherine received an exceptional education and became renowned for her extraordinary intelligence and learning. When the Emperor Maxentius summoned fifty of the greatest pagan philosophers to argue against her faith, Catherine confounded them all with her brilliant defence of Christianity, converting many of them on the spot. She endured terrible tortures including the breaking wheel, which was miraculously destroyed, before her martyrdom by beheading around 305 AD. She is venerated as the patron saint of philosophers, scholars, students and young women. Her relics rest at the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai.
