Saint Bede the Venerable Black Coffee Mug

Sale price£25.00

Saint Bede the Venerable was a monk of the twin monastery of Wearmouth and Jarrow in Northumbria, where he spent virtually his entire life in prayer, scholarship and writing. Born around 673 AD, he devoted himself entirely to learning, teaching and writing, producing works of scripture commentary, history, hagiography, science and liturgy that placed him among the greatest scholars of the early medieval world. He fell asleep in the Lord in 735 AD while dictating a translation of the Gospel of John, completing his last sentence with the words: it is finished.

"The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom and his tongue speaks justice." (Psalm 37:30)

O venerable Bede, holy teacher and historian of the English Church, who spent thy whole life in the love of learning and the service of God, intercede before the Lord for all scholars, teachers and writers who seek to honour Him with their minds. Amen.

This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for name days, baptisms and as a gift for those who love the ancient Orthodox heritage of England.
