Saint Alban the Protomartyr of Britain Black Coffee Mug

Saint Alban is venerated as the first martyr of Britain, who gave his life for the Christian faith during the Roman persecution of the early fourth century. A Roman soldier stationed at Verulamium, he sheltered a Christian priest fleeing persecution and was so moved by the man's faith and prayer that he converted to Christianity. When soldiers came to arrest the priest, Alban disguised himself in the priest's cloak and presented himself in the priest's place, refusing to deny his newfound faith.

"For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." (Matthew 16:25)
