Saint Aidan of Lindisfarne Black Coffee Mug

Sale price£25.00

Saint Aidan of Lindisfarne was an Irish monk from the great monastic community of Iona who was invited to Northumbria in 635 AD by King Oswald to bring the Christian faith to the people of northern England. He established his monastery on the holy island of Lindisfarne, which became one of the greatest centres of Christian learning and mission in the early medieval world. Aidan was known above all for his profound humility and compassion — he walked among the people rather than riding on horseback, gave freely to the poor, and ransomed slaves with gifts given to him by the wealthy.

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy." (Matthew 5:7)

O holy father Aidan, gentle shepherd and apostle of Northumbria, who brought the light of the Gospel to these northern islands with meekness and love, intercede before the Lord for all who dwell in these lands and for all who seek thee. Amen.

This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for name days, baptisms and as a gift for those devoted to the ancient Orthodox heritage of Britain.
