New Martyr Elizabeth Black Coffee Mug

Sale price£25.00

Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia was born into the royal house of Hesse-Darmstadt in 1864 and married Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich of Russia. Following her husband's assassination in 1905, she renounced her wealth, founded the Martha and Mary Convent of Mercy in Moscow and dedicated her life entirely to prayer and care for the poor and sick. In 1918 she was arrested by the Bolsheviks and thrown alive into a mine shaft near Alapayevsk, where she died praying for her murderers. She was glorified as a saint and new martyr of the Russian Orthodox Church and is venerated throughout the Orthodox world as a model of sacrificial love and royal holiness.

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

O holy new martyr Elizabeth, who exchanged a royal crown for a martyr's wreath and devoted thy life to the service of the suffering, intercede before the Lord for all who venerate thee and seek to follow thee in love and sacrifice. Amen.

This mug makes a deeply meaningful gift for name days, baptisms, anniversaries and as a gift of remembrance and faith.
