Archangel Raphael Framed Canvas Icon
Archangel Raphael, whose name means God Heals, is venerated within Orthodox tradition as a minister of healing and a guide to those journeying through danger, his ministry recorded most fully in the Book of Tobit, where he accompanies the young Tobias on a long and perilous journey while disguised as a human companion. Throughout that journey Raphael protects Tobias from harm, instructs him in the means of healing his father's blindness, and binds a demon that had brought ruin upon a family Tobias was to marry into, revealing his true identity as an archangel only once his mission was complete. He describes himself in that same account as one of seven holy angels who present the prayers of the saints before the glory of God, a ministry of healing and intercession the Church continues to invoke on behalf of the sick and those undertaking difficult journeys. This icon makes a meaningful gift for anyone facing illness, embarking upon travel, or seeking healing within their own family.
“I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels, which present the prayers of the saints, and which go in and out before the glory of the Holy One.” (Tobit 12:15)
O holy Archangel Raphael, minister of healing and faithful guide upon every journey, watch over us in sickness and in travel, and bring us safely to the end God has appointed for us. Amen.
