The Holy Archangel Jegudiel, also written Jehudiel or Yehudiel, is one of the seven archangels who stand before the throne of God, venerated in the Orthodox Christian tradition as the angel of praise and glorification of God, the heavenly being who encourages and strengthens those who labour for the glory of God and who brings divine reward to those who persevere faithfully in their calling. His name in Hebrew means praise of God or he who glorifies God, and he is depicted in Orthodox iconography holding a golden crown in his right hand, symbolising the reward prepared for those who remain faithful, and a triple scourge in his left hand, symbolising the chastisement of those who are spiritually negligent. He is understood as the special patron and encourager of all who work for God's glory in their daily lives, whether in their spiritual struggles, their professional vocation or their service to others, reminding them that their labour in the Lord is never in vain. He is commemorated together with all the holy Bodiless Powers at the Synaxis in November.
