Every icon starts as raw birch, cut and shaped by hand before the image ever touches the wood. The design itself is drawn from Orthodox Church tradition, then brought to life by our craftsmen and parishioners in the workshop. Not stamped out, made. Once the icon is finished, we seal it with a Museum Wax layer for depth and protection, then set it into its frame ourselves before it's wrapped and sent on its way to you.

Saint George served as an officer in the Roman army during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, rising to a position of considerable rank and favour before the emperor's edict against Christians forced him to choose between his career and his faith. Rather than renounce Christ, George openly confessed his belief before the emperor himself, an act of public defiance that led to prolonged and brutal torture, yet tradition holds that he endured every torment with unshaken composure, strengthening the faith of those who witnessed his suffering. He was eventually beheaded for his refusal to recant, becoming one of the most celebrated martyrs of the early Church. The famous legend of George slaying a dragon to rescue a city from its terror, though added to his story centuries after his death, has become inseparable from his iconography, understood by the Church not as literal history but as a vivid image of his victory over the ancient dragon, the devil himself, through faith and courage.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

O holy Great Martyr George, who didst stand unshaken before torment and death rather than deny Christ, intercede for us, that we too may hold fast to our faith whatever trials may come. Amen.

A meaningful Orthodox gift for baptisms, name days, weddings, and feast celebrations.
