This near-sacrifice has long been understood by the Church as a profound foreshadowing of God's own willingness to give His only Son for the salvation of the world, making Abraham not merely a distant ancestor but a figure whose obedience points directly toward the heart of the Gospel itself. Revered as the father of faith by Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike, Abraham remains within Orthodox tradition one of the great righteous forefathers, commemorated each year on the Sunday set aside to honour the holy ancestors of Christ according to the flesh.

“By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac... accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead.” (Hebrews 11:17-19)

O holy and righteous Abraham, father of faith, who didst trust God even when the path before thee made no sense, intercede for us, that we too may obey God's call even when it costs us what we hold most dear. Amen.
