Every icon starts as raw birch, cut and shaped by hand before the image ever touches the wood. The design itself is drawn from Orthodox Church tradition, then brought to life by our craftsmen and parishioners in the workshop. Not stamped out, made. Once the icon is finished, we seal it with a Museum Wax layer for depth and protection, then set it into its frame ourselves before it's wrapped and sent on its way to you.

Christ Pantocrator, meaning 'Ruler of All,' is among the oldest and most venerated icon types in the Orthodox Church, depicting Christ in half-length, one hand raised in blessing and the other holding the Gospel book, His two natures, divine and human, expressed through the asymmetry often given to His face. The earliest surviving example, preserved at Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai, dates to the sixth century, and the type has remained a central image in Orthodox churches ever since, most often placed in the dome or apse where Christ looks down upon the whole gathered congregation. To stand before this icon is to stand before the icon of icons, the image toward which every other icon in the church ultimately points.
