Archangel Barachiel Framed Canvas Icon
Archangel Barachiel, whose name signifies Blessing of God, is venerated within Orthodox tradition as the angel entrusted with distributing the blessings of God to the faithful upon the earth, often depicted carrying a branch of white flowers or roses as a visible sign of the favour he bears to those who seek it. Counted among the seven archangels celebrated each November in the Synaxis of the Bodiless Powers, Barachiel stands alongside Michael, Gabriel, and the others as part of the great company of bodiless powers who continually surround the throne of God in worship and service. Though Scripture does not name him directly, the Church has long held that his ministry reflects the simple truth that every good gift, however it reaches the faithful, ultimately descends from the Father of lights, carried by hands unseen. He remains a comforting reminder that divine blessing is not distant or withheld, but actively brought near to those who seek it in faith.
“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee.” (Numbers 6:24)
O holy Archangel Barachiel, bearer of God's blessings to the faithful, intercede for us, that we may receive with gratitude every good gift that descends from the Father of lights. Amen.
