Saint Nektarios of Aegina Framed Canvas Icon

Saint Nektarios, born in Greece in the nineteenth century, rose to become a bishop in Egypt before being unjustly accused of wrongdoing by jealous rivals within the Church hierarchy, charges that were never proven yet led to his removal from office and years of humiliation he bore without bitterness or complaint. Rather than seeking to clear his name through worldly means, he accepted the injustice with remarkable humility, later devoting himself to teaching and eventually founding a women's monastery on the island of Aegina, where he spent his final years in quiet service and prayer. Numerous healings have been attributed to his intercession both during his lifetime and especially since his repose, and his relics, kept at the monastery he founded, remain a major site of pilgrimage to this day. He was officially recognised as a saint by the Church in the twentieth century and remains one of the most beloved and frequently invoked saints in modern Greek Orthodoxy.

O holy Father Nektarios, who didst bear false accusation without complaint and didst answer injustice with humility, intercede for us, that we too may forgive those who wrong us and trust in God's vindication rather than our own. Amen.
