Rather than renounce Christ, George openly confessed his belief before the emperor himself, an act of public defiance that led to prolonged and brutal torture, yet tradition holds that he endured every torment with unshaken composure, strengthening the faith of those who witnessed his suffering. He was eventually beheaded for his refusal to recant, becoming one of the most celebrated martyrs of the early Church.
