He received a vision of the living Christ early in his monastic life which became the foundation and reference point of all his subsequent spiritual striving. His spiritual writings were preserved and published by his disciple the Archimandrite Sophrony of Essex and have been translated into dozens of languages. He reposed in October 1938 and was glorified as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1987.
